About the Society:-

The objectives of the Society are:-

(a).To provide qualified referees for games of Bowls played under the rules of  British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA), at both local and county level.

(b). To consult with the British Crown Green Referees Society (BCGRS) and the  BCGBA on the Laws of the game and possible amendments & additions thereto.

(c). To offer guidance to all participants on the laws of the game.

(d). To hold periodic examinations and assessments in order to qualify and approve  new referees.

We are very keen to increase the number of qualified Referees within our Country and thereby to improve the general level of knowledge of the Rules for all participants.

We are only a small group with about 16 members actively engaged in Officiating at matches throughout the season so there is plenty of scope for new Referees. Appointments as a Referee do attract a modest Fee and travel expenses.

WHY NOT BECOME A QUALIFIED REFEREE????

We really do need more bowlers to volunteer to become qualified Referees.

You will be pleasantly surprised how rewarding refereeing can be. Always in the game and respected by most of the leading players and officials. The camaraderie and friendship amongst referees is unbelievable. Don’t think too long - go for it.

The process involves:-

  • Reading the Rules a few times to enable you to become familiar with them.
  • Attending a Seminar at a location near to you when all the Rules will be explained & discussed.
  • Sitting a written examination lasting approximately 2 hours.
  • Undertaking a practical session in actual Refereeing of a game.

We hope to organise at least 2 Seminars in early to mid October and would like to hear from anybody who may be interested.

Anybody, including juniors, interested in expanding your knowledge of our sport please call or E mail us now on any of the above numbers.
